Community Conversations

Azra Hassanali joined us to have a community conversation and share her life journey and experiences. Born in Perivale, United Kingdom, her parents originally came from East Africa, father from Fazal family in Bukoba – Tanzania and Mother from Jetha family – Uganda.  She did her primary and secondary education in Pinner and obtained BSc Speech Sciences from University College London. After the qualification, she worked as a Speech and Language Therapist for 20 years both in the NHS and independent sector. Currently she is the Clinical Service Lead for the Early Years Speech & Language Therapy Team in Ealing. She is also ‘ Mindfulness practitioner ‘ facilitating Islamic mindfulness courses for women. She is Mother to 2 daughters who inspire her every day. She established an annual ‘Disability Awareness Day’ at Hujjat Madressa which has been running for approximately 10 years as well as established the Learning Support Madressa in 2018 which aimed to cater for the needs of students with disabilities in mainstream classrooms. She wrote and sold an album of Shia Islamic rhymes called, ‘A Day with Aunty Zahra’ which has reached as far as Orlando, Australia, Dar e Salaam and the Philippines. Currently, she is the Head of the ‘SEND’ Committee at Hujjat Stanmore.
