Bashirbhai was born in Zanzibar in 1946. After Zanzibar revolution in 1964, he moved to Dar es Salaam. Lack of economic prospect meant that he had to move to Mtwara. His passion was cricket that brought him back to Dar es Salaam. His life and cricket remained inseparably intertwined until early 1990’s. during which time, he played for Tanzania National Team and also captained the team as well. After retiring from active cricket at the National level, he became the chair of Dar es Salaam Ithna-Asheri Union. It is during his tenure as a chair that he met with a tragic car accident in 1995, during the journey to Mombasa to attend the Africa Federation meeting. By the grace of Allah swt, he survived the accident. Throughout his cricketing flair, he inspired others in the family to also develop passion for cricket.  Cricket then ran in the family. His Marhum brother Ebrahim played for Tanzania as Wicket-Keeper Batsman. His other Brother Hasnain played for Tanzania in late 80’s and early 1990’s. His son Sajjad played for Tanzania as Wicket-Keeper Batsman in 1995 and 1996. A man of gentle disposition, soft spoken and a through Gentleman in the sport field, as many have described him, he went on to achieve a high level of cricketing success in Tanzania.
