Every Muharram, we gather.
We dress in black. We enter the halls of mourning with reverence. We listen. We cry. And in that shared sorrow, something extraordinary happens: we become a family of faith — a community bound not just by belief, but by tears.
But behind each of our tears is a story.
A story of the first time we heard “Ali Akbar” and our hearts shattered.
A story of the aunty who always had tissues in her bag.
A story of the time the noha echoed so deeply it silenced the room.
These are the moments that shape us.
And this year, at Hujjat Stanmore, we want to honour those moments.
Introducing: Majlis Memories
We’re inviting you — every member of our community, young and old — to share a personal memory from Muharram. It could be one line. A full story. A name. A moment. Something that made your heart tremble in a majlis. Something you’ve never forgotten.
We’ll display these memories throughout the centre — printed, handwritten, anonymous or signed — as a living memory wall that grows night after night.
Because your memory might be someone else’s reminder.
Your moment of grief might help another reconnect.
And your story might be exactly what someone needs to read to feel less alone in their mourning.
Prompts to Reflect On:
- What majlis changed you?
- Who first taught you to cry for Imam Hussain (a)?
- What line from a noha or eulogy lives rent-free in your soul?
- What’s your earliest Muharram memory?
- What do you whisper during the last du’a of Ashura night?
How to Submit
There will be a Majlis Memories box at the centre throughout Muharram. Drop your memory in — anonymous or signed. Or, if you’re online, tag us on instagram @ksimclondon, or you can email your memories to lc@hujjat.org.
We’ll carefully place your reflections on display in the centre as sacred reminder of lived grief and love.
This Muharram, let’s not just cry — let’s remember.
Let’s not just attend — let’s connect.
Let’s not just mourn — let’s honour the tears that sustain us.
With love and duas.
