Hujjat Covid Statement 16.10.20

In: Home Page, Hujjat, Latest News

Salaam alaykum,

Our condolences to Imam Mahdi (atf) and the Muslim ummah on the Shahadat anniversary of our Beloved Prophet (saw) and Imam Ali-Ridha (as). We pray that our remembrance of our esteemed role models in a safe manner are accepted during this pandemic.

What is going on?
You may already be aware that the number of Coronavirus cases, hospital admissions and deaths have steadily increased over the last month across the UK. Locally, the increase in cases over the last week has been amongst some of the highest in London e.g. Harrow (6.1%), Barnet (5.3%), Hillingdon (4.7%), Brent (4.9%).

As such, the UK government will be transitioning all London Boroughs from Tier 1 (Medium Risk) to Tier 2 (High Risk) on Saturday 17th October 2020.

Risk in our community
Strong evidence has demonstrated our Hujjat community to be at a greater risk due to our demographics and background. We are more likely than other ethnic groups to have a greater severity of illness and hospital admissions, and we are now witnessing the long term effects of Covid and its impact on otherwise healthy individuals.

Amongst our community, we have also seen an increase in cases during Muharram and Safar, and sadly some deaths due to Covid. May Allah (swt) elevate their status and grant their families patience and forbearance.

Hujjat activities continue
Due to the foresight of the Hujjat Taskforce and the EC, our current Hujjat activities are in line with the new High Risk regulations; work is underway to make our centre Covid Compliant, until that time our activities will remain unchanged.

The majority of Hujjat activities continue to thrive online across the board from Religious Education (Hujjat Academy, Madressa/Workshop & Majalis Programmes) to Social activities (Zoom Calls amongst Seniors Citizens & Ladies), as well as Youth events with Al-Haadi Youth. Stanmore Jafferys continue to work closely with the Task Force to ensure the Sport Activities are taking place in a safe manner in line with current guidelines.

Impact of the guidelines on our Community
The main change affecting our members personally are:

“You MUST NOT socialise with anybody outside of your household or support bubble in any INDOOR setting, whether at home or in a public place” – this includes holding majalis or any gatherings indoors.

“Gatherings outside, including in a garden or other spaces like beaches or parks is limited to no more than a group of 6.”

Staying safe during the Second wave

The Coronavirus is a silent virus that spreads without individuals being aware of the infection. The vast majority of patient’s remain asymptomatic, and so it is difficult to know if you are exposed to the virus, or if you are actively spreading the virus. As such, we would like to remind everyone to ensure we reduce the risk of being infected or infect others with our interactions and activities.

Please Wear a mask at all times and Avoid the “Three Cs”

1. Closed Spaces with poor ventilation
2. Crowded places with many people nearby
3. Close-contact settings such as close-range conversations or recitations.

If you develop symptoms of the virus, please immediately self-isolate – people who fail to self-isolate may face a fine of up to £10,000.

If you have one of the three symptoms (New continuous cough, fever or loss of taste or sense of smell) book a free test online or call 119.

Please join us in praying for the Shifa for all those who have tested positive for Covid in our community and undergoing treatment, and recite Surah Al-Fateha for all Marhumeen who have lost their lives due to Covid.
